1988年12月24日に凶弾に倒れたブラジル人チコ・メンデスに捧げた歌。チコ・メンデスは、アクレ州のゴム樹液採取シンジケートのリーダーで、ブラジル産果実や他の森林作物を採取して生活を維持する広大な森林地帯を保存するため、家畜の牧場を移植するためにアクレ州の熱帯雨林全域を伐採しようとする人々と真っ向から立ち向かう運動を繰り広げた人物であった。
この頃から環境保全の意識喚起を打ち出したポールが、環境保全に関わりのある人物を捧げる歌を作ることによって、その方向性を明確にしたものと解釈できる。
ポールはこの曲をジャマイカに滞在している時に作り、お得意のレゲエのアレンジに仕上げた。
「あそこに行ったらレゲエをやらないわけにはいかないよ。もっと複雑にしなきゃと思ったけど、それじゃうまくいかなくて、シンプルなままにしたんだ。」（ポール）
同じアルバム『Flowers In The Dirt』に収録されている「Rough Ride」と同じスタッフでレコーディングを行った。ポールとヘイミッシュ・スチュアート、ドラムのクリス・ウィットンの３人でベーシック・トラックをレコーディングし、リンダのコーラスを加え、レゲエ・アーティストのジャー・バニーがゲストに加わりオーバーダブを行った。プロデュースを行ったトレバー・ホーンやスティーブ・リプソンもレコーディングに参加している。
ポールがDJを担当したラジオ番組『Oobu Joobu』の第６回（1995年6月24日放送）で、ポール、ヘイミッシュ・スチュアート、クリス・ウィットンの３人でのリハーサル音源が放送された。また、アルバム『Flowers In The Dirt』のプロモーションとして出演したテレビ番組のうち、1989年5月22日収録、5月24日放送のオランダの番組『Count Down』などでスタジオライブを行った。
なお、1992年6月にブラジルのリオデジャネイロで開催された環境と開発に関する国際会議、国連環境開発会議（UNCED、地球サミット）を記念して発売されたアルバム『Earthrise』に、環境保護という観点に即して、この曲が収録されており、同タイトルのビデオ『Earthrise』にも、この曲のプロモーション・ビデオが収録されている。プロモーション・ビデオはブラジルのアマゾン川流域を中心とする環境変化の現状を紹介した映像が中心に構成されており、ポールは登場しない。

Flying To My Home

アルバム『Flowers In The Dirt』からの第１弾シングル「My Brave Face」のＢ面曲。シングル「My Bracve Face」はいろいろなフォーマットで発売されたが、全てのフォーマットに収録されている。
ポールが鼻の掛かったような風変わりなボーカルを聴かせる。イントロ部分がアカペラで始まった後、ストレートなロックに転換する。ロック部分は、ビートルズのアレンジに近い。アカペラ部分はビーチボーイズのブライアン・ウィルソンに影響を受けているようだ。
ほとんどの楽器をポールが演奏しているが、1989-90年のゲットバック・ツアーでのバック・バンドのメンバーのうち、ギターのヘイミッシュ・スチュアートとドラムのクリス・ウィットンがレコーディングに参加した。ドラマーのクリス・ウィットンは、アコーディオン、シンセサイザーも演奏している。
発売後しばらくはシングルにしか収録されていなかったが、1993年にアルバム『Flowers In The Dirt』が再発された時にボーナストラックとして収録された。
コンサートが終わるとすぐに飛行機で帰宅するというポールらしい歌詞であるが、主にリンダのことを歌っているようだ。

アルバム『Flowers In The Dirt』からの第３段シングル。1989-90年のワールドツアー「ゲットバック・ツアー」のオープニングを飾った曲。ツアーのオープニング・フィルムの終了と共に、「ＮＯＷ」という文字をバックにしてポールが登場し、この曲の演奏を開始するという姿に感動を覚えたファンも多い。ツアーのオープニングに当時の新曲を持ってきたということは、ポールも当時のニューアルバム『Flowers In The Dirt』に自信を持っていたのであろう。
アルバム『Flowers In The Dirt』に収録されたバージョンと、シングルで発売されたバージョンは別録音で全く異なる。
アルバム収録バージョンは、「Rough Ride」と同じ演奏メンバーにドラムのクリス・ウィットンを加えて、トレバー・ホーンとスティーブ・リプソンのプロデュースによりレコーディングされた。ライブ感覚を保持するため、クリスのドラムをバックに、ポールはベースとボーカルを同時に録音したが、ベースのミスタッチが多かったため、ベース・パートは後ほど再レコーディングされた。元々ボーカルのキーが高かったため、キーを下げて録音された。ポールのボーカルやエンディングなど、ラフな部分が多い演奏である。
「このアルバムで僕にとって興味のあることと言えば、完全主義の人達と仕事することなんだ。僕はそういうやり方に必ずしも感服しないから、みんなに、エンディングの方法を決めないで、ラフな形でやるように指示するんだ。」（ポール）
アルバムに収録されたのは、オリジナル・バージョンより多少編集されており、オリジナル・バージョンは、以下のブートで聴くことができる。

一方、アルバムの第３弾シングルとして発売が決定したのを受け、この曲をツアーのリハーサル中に、ツアー・バンドのメンバーとスコットランドのスタジオで、キーボードのポール・ウィックス・ウィッケンズの主導のもとで再録音した。
新たにレコーディングされたこのバージョンは、まず、クリス・ヒュージによってリミックスされ、そのリミックス・バージョンを、ボブ・クリアマウンテンが1989年9月12日にアイランド・スタジオでリミックスした。
シングルとしては、オリジナルの5分16秒のバージョンと、これを編集した4分3秒のバージョンが出回っており、それぞれ、7インチ、12インチレコード、3インチCD、5インチCD、プロモ盤と、多種多様なフォーマットで発売された。
シングルとしては、全英42位、全米92位。ヒットには至らなかった。
この曲のプロモーション・ビデオも撮影され、３バージョン存在する。バージョン１とバージョン２は、VIVID Productionのルーク・ロエクのプロデュース、アンディ・モラハン監督によるもので、1989年10月29,30日のチューリッヒ公演の映像に、シングルの音を被せたものである。また、ライブ・バージョンのプロモビデオも作成され、1990年1月17日のウェンブリー公演の音源を元に、数カ所の演奏の映像を被せている。
この曲のライブ・バージョンは、以下のブートで聴くことができる。各地の公演の様子を伝えるニュース映像でも、各地でのこの曲の演奏シーンが使われている。

Don't Be Careless Love

ポールとエルヴィス・コステロとの共作曲。ラブ・ソングでありながら、少し不気味な内容を包含する歌詞とは裏腹に、穏やかなメロディーや曲調が印象的な曲。当初、エルヴィス・コステロとこの曲のレコーディングを行ったが、アルバム『Flowers In The Dirt』内の次曲である「That Day Is Done」と同様に、1988年10月28日と29日に、ロスの Sunset Sound Factory のスタジオBで、キーボディストのミッチェル・フルームと再録音を行った。その時にオーバーダブに参加したのは、ヘイミッシュ・スチュアートと、アルバム『Press To Play』でタイムキーパーを担当したジェリー・マロッタである。
しかし、冒頭のポール、エルヴィス、ヘイミッシュ・スチュアートによるコーラスワークはそのまま採用することとなった。
「僕とエルビスでレコーディングしていいテープが出来たんだけど完成はしなかった。それでミッチェルと再録音したんだけど、ほとんどエルビスと作ったテイクを使っている。ボーカルは気に入っていたから、ほんのちょっと整えればよかったんだ。」（ポール）

Distraction

題名「Distraction」（動揺）という通り、ポールの日常生活における悩みや葛藤などがテーマとなっている。
「よく人からこう聞かれるんだ。『君が何故悩むことがあるんだ？ 君は金持ちじゃないか！』 みんなの夢だと思うよ。僕も学生の時は思っていた。たくさんのお金を稼いで金持ちになって、毎日ずっと休日なんだ。でも、実際にそうなったら、人生うまくいかないって分かるよ。おもしろくとも何ともない。そして『僕は何をしているんだろう？』って思うよ。」（ポール）
このように、ポールの日常生活の葛藤が歌詞に現れているが、それをリンダに対する愛情を表現するための隠喩として用いている。
この曲のオーケストラ・アレンジは、クレア・フィッシャーが担当した。ポールは、プリンスのペイズリー・パーク・レーベルから出たザ・ファミリーのオーケストラ・アレンジをいたく気に入り、このアレンジを担当したクレア・フィッシャーに直接アレンジすることを依頼したという。
演奏部分のベーシック・トラックは、1989年からのワールド・ツアーにも参加したヘイミッシュ・シチュアートとクリス・ウィットンとで1988年夏にスコットランドのスタジオで行い、オーケストラ・アレンジは、14本のバイオリン、4本のビオラ、2本のチェロ、1本のウッド・ベースを用いて、1988年11月1日午後2時から5時のセッションで、カリフォルニアの Chick's Corea's Mad Hatter Studios で行われた。オーケストラ・アレンジを聞いたポールは「まさにハリウッドって感じだね。ドリス・トロイの映画みたいだ。」と言ったという。
同日、ポールとエルヴィス・コステロの共作曲「The Lovers That Never Were」のオーケストラ・セクションも録音されたが、結局このアレンジはリリースされなかった。
当初、アルバム『Flowers In The Dirt』からの第３弾シングルとして、1989年9月25日に発売される予定であったが中止となり、第３弾シングルは「Figure Of Eight」となった。そのため、プロモーション・ビデオも制作され、公式ビデオ『Put It There』に収録されている。プロモーション・ビデオのバージョンは、アルバム『Flowers In The Dirt』に収録されているものとは若干ミックスが異なる。
1989年6月8日に収録されたスペインのテレビ番組『La Luna』でこの曲の演奏が放送される予定であり、リハーサルでも演奏したが、結局は放送されなかった。

1987年に発売されたベスト・アルバム『All The Best』に合わせて発売されたシングル「Once Upon A Long Ago」のB面に収録された曲。1987年頃から共作活動を始めたエルヴィス・コステロとの共作曲の中で、一番最初にリリースされたものである。
ポールとエルヴィス・コステロは、1982年にポールがアルバム『Tug Of War』をレコーディングしている時にロンドンのAIRスタジオで初めて出会い、1987年頃からロンドンのMPLオフィスで落ち合い、曲を一緒に書き始めたようだ。
この曲のメロディーは既にポールが作り上げていたが、歌詞の仕上げ部分をエルヴィス・コステロが手伝い、1987年3月9日にバック・トラックをレコーディングしてこの曲を仕上げた。
フィル・ラモーンのプロデュースのもと、通称『The Lost Pepperland Album』のレコーディング・セッションで録音された曲の１つ。
1993年に再発されたアルバム『Flowers In The Dirt』のボーナス・トラックに収録された。
