言わずと知れたポール・マッカートニー＆ウィングスの代表曲。1973年に発売したアルバム『Band On The Run』からのファースト・シングルとして、アルバム発売後の1974年1月に発売され、1974年2月に全米・全英ともに７位まで記録している。アメリカのキャッシュボックス誌では最高５位まで上昇した。
当初ポールはアルバム『Banc On The Run』からシングルカットをしない予定であったが、アルバム発売の1973年12月当初はアルバムのセールスが芳しくなかったことから、この曲をファースト・シングルとしてアルバムのプロモーションに力を入れたようだ。
「『Band On The Run』を作った時、アルバムが純粋なものに仕上がったので、シングルを出さないつもりだった。みんなアルバムから売れ筋の曲をシングルカットしているけど、僕らはＬＰだけを出したかったんだ。けど、アルバムを出した当初はあまり売れなくてね。数人から良いアルバムって言われてて、チャートの７位まで上昇したんだけど、下降し始めた。その時に’しまった！ いいアルバムなのに！’って思ったね。みんなアルバムを聴いたことがないっていうのが紛れもない事実だったんだ。」（ポール）
この曲は、ポールが夏にスコットランドで過ごしている時に書かれた。アルバム『Band On The Run』のレコーディング地、ナイジェリアのラゴスからロンドンに帰ってきた後に、ロンドンのAIR Studiosでレコーディングされた。
曲を作っている時にポールの飼っていた「Jet」というラブラドール犬がポールのまわりを入り回っていたことから、この犬の名前を曲のタイトルにしたようだ。
「僕らはラブラドール犬を飼っていた。その子犬は野犬で室内にいるような犬ではなかったんだけど、ある日妊娠して帰ってきた。子犬数匹を抱えてガレージの中を歩き回るんだ。'Jet'はその子犬の中の一匹なんだ。子犬全部に名前を付けたけど、その中には’ゴールデン・マラシーズ’なんていう名前の犬もいたりしてね。こっちの方がよかったかな。」（ポール）
「曲を書くとき、それが何かを意味する時もあるし、レコードを買ってくれる人にとって何かを意味するときもある。でも、何を意味するかと尋ねられた時に答えられないことがあるんだ。'Suffragette'がそうだ。なんか馬鹿げたように聞こえる。そういうのが好きなんだ。」（ポール）
この曲がシングルとして発売される前、アメリカのラジオ局からの反応よかったため、レコード会社のキャピトルはエディット・バージョンを制作するようにポールに依頼したが、当初ポールはＯＫを出さず、ラジオ局独自でエディット・バージョンを制作し放送していたが、遂にポールもキャピトルレコードに対して許可を出し、2分49秒のエディット・バージョンが制作され、各ラジオ局に配布されたところ、ラジオ局のヒットチャートで次々と１位を記録することとなった。シングルでは、通常の４分のバージョンのみ発売された。
この曲はポールのライブの定番曲であり、常にオープニングか２，３曲目くらいに演奏され、会場を盛り上げる役割を果たしている。1975-76年のウィングスのワールド・ツアー、1989-90年のゲットバック・ツアー、1993年のヨーロッパ・日本・南米ツアー、2002-3年のワールド・ツアー、2004年のヨーロッパ・ツアー、2005年のアメリカ・ツアーで演奏された。
なお、アルバム『Band On The Run 25th Anniversary Edition』には、1993年9月3日ベルリン公演のサウンドチェックでの演奏が収録されている。

Hey Diddle

ポールが1971年頃に作った曲で、アルバム『RAM』のセッションでレコーディングされたが、曲の完成度が高くなかったため、当時はお蔵入りのままとしていた。その約30年後、2001年に発売したベスト『Wingspan』で初めてこの曲が公式に発表された。公式に発表されたバージョンは、スタジオでレコーディングしたバージョンではなく、1971年6月頃にマッカートニー一家（ポール、リンダ、娘のメアリー、ヘザー、犬のマーサ）が彼らの所有するスコットランドの農場で過ごしている時に、ポールがアコースティックギター片手に家族に向けて弾き語りを行うシーンから。時期的には、「3 Legs」「Heart Of The Country」のプロモーション・フィルムが撮影された時期に近い。
このフィルムは、1975-76年のウィングスのワールドツアーをドキュメントしたテレビ番組『Wings Over The World』の中で使われ、「Bip Bop」「Hey Diddle」の２曲が放送された。また、「Bip Bop」の演奏シーンは、1993年ニュー・ワールドツアーのオープニング・フィルムにも挿入され、公式ビデオ『Paul Is Live』でも一部見ることができる。
アルバム『RAM』でスタジオ録音されたテイクは、1974年のナッシュビルでのレコーディング・セッションでオーバーダブされた。マージとマーシーの２人組ケイツ・シスターズの演奏するフィドルが1974年7月8日にサウンドショップ・スタジオで追加録音され、9日にはロイド・グリーンによるスチール・ペダルが加えられた。さらに、1978年にアルバム『Cold Cuts』を発売するためのオーバーダブが行われた。これらテイクは、未発表曲集を集めた未発表アルバム『Cold Cuts』に収録されている。
また、1973年のテレビ番組『James Paul McCartney』のリハーサルでも、弾き語りでこの曲を披露している。

Goodnight Tonight

当時流行っていたディスコ・ミュージックをポールなりに消化した曲。ポールとして初めて、１２インチシングルとしてロング・バージョンを制作した。ウィングス最後のヒット・シングルであり、全米５位、全米５位を記録した。
ポールは当初、この曲をアルバム『London Town』のために、１人でレコーディングしていたが、曲が完成せず、しばらく未完成のままの状況となっていた。
「当初、'Goodnight Tonight'がＢ面、'Daytime Nightime Suffering'がＡ面になる予定だった。この曲は、何年も棚に上げられていたんだ。メンバーで議論して、どうやったらソウルフルな感じになるかって。それで、この曲はリリースしないってことに決めたんだ。数週間後に、再びメンバーで演奏したら、'これはいけるじゃないか。やったね。リリースしたらどうかな？'ってことになって、リリースすることにしたんだ。」（ポール）
1979年1月、前回のウィングスのワールド・ツアーを捉えたドキュメンタリー番組『Wings Over The World』が放送された頃、ポールは次のウィングスのシングル発売のことについて考え、ポールの自宅スタジオにウィングスのメンバーを呼び寄せ、ポールがソロでレコーディングしたこの曲にバンドメンバーが手を加え、エディー・クラインの編集と、マルコム・デイビーズのパイ・スタジオでのマスタリングを経て、この曲が完成した。
1979年から、アメリカのレコード販売に関し、キャピタル・レコードからコロンビア・レコードに移籍したので、このシングルがコロンビア・レコードからの移籍後第１弾となった。
プロモーション・ビデオは、1979年4月3日にキーフ・マクミランの監督のもと、ロンドンのハマースミス・ダンスホールで撮影され、翌日編集され、５バージョンものビデオが作成された。そのうち、1930年のオールド・スタイルで決めたウィングスをフィーチャーしたビデオは、当時、イギリスの番組『Top Of The Pops』『The Kenny Everett Show』、アメリカでは『The Midnight Special』で放送された。また、アルバム『Back To The Egg』収録曲のプロモーション・ビデオを集約した番組『Back To The Egg』でも、この曲が含まれている。
当初この曲はアルバムに収録されていなかったが、1993年にリイシューされた時に、アルバム『McCartney II』のボーナス・トラックとして追加された。また、ＬＰ盤の『All The Best!』、アメリカ盤ＣＤ『All The Best!』には収録されているが、イギリス盤・日本盤『All The Best!』には収録されていない。
ジョン・レノンが気に入っていた曲と言われているが、彼は特に、ポールのベース・プレイを評価していたようだ。
この曲は、アルバム『Back To The Egg』発売後に行った全英ツアーで、リズム・ボックスをバックに演奏した。その時の演奏は、以下のブートで聴くことができる。

Girlfriend

ポールがスイスに休暇に出掛けているときに書いた曲で、1974年11月の時点でピアノ弾き語りによるデモを作成していた。
1975年にクイーン・メアリーに乗船している時にマイケル・ジャクソンに会ったポールが、マイケルの目の前で歌ったとされ、その後、ポールがアルバム『London Town』で発表した後、マイケル・ジャクソンが自身アルバム『Off The Wall』（1979年発売）でカバーした。これからポールとマイケル・ジャクソンの交流が始まったとされ、1983年の「Say Say Say」などの共演へと繋がる。
ポールはこの曲をマイケル・ジャクソンを意識して書いたことを否定しているが、アルバム『London Town』に収録されているバージョンにおいて、ほとんどの部分でファルセット・ボーカルで歌っていることから、一般的には、ポールがマイケル・ジャクソンのために書いた曲だと認識されている。
ウィングスのメンバー、ジミー・マッカロックとジョー・イングリッシュが脱退した後にレコーディングされたため、ポールがほとんどの楽器を担当している。
ポールお気に入りの曲で、ベストアルバム『Wingspan』にも収録されている。

1975年秋にポールはこの曲のことを「家庭料理に対する要望だよ。ちょっと卑猥な。」と答えており、歌詞には性的な意味を内包しているとも考えられる。

Daytime Nightime Suffering

アルバム『Back To The Egg』のセッションでレコーディングされたポップなナンバーで、シングル「Goodnight Tonight」のＢ面として発表され、アルバム『Back To The Egg』にはボーナストラックとして収録されている。
Ｂ面ながら、ファンには人気の高い曲で、Ａ面として発売するべきとの声が多かった。ポールは1987年のインタビューで、ビートルズ時代の曲を含めて、この曲が一番気に入っていると答えている。そのため、ベストアルバム『Wingspan』にも収録されている。
レコーディングは、1979年1～2月に、ポール・マッカートニーの音楽出版を手がける会社ＭＰＬのロンドンにあるオフィスの地下に作られた、アビーロード・スタジオの第２スタジオをそっくりそのまま模倣して作ったスタジオ「Replica Studio」で行われた。ミキシングは2月に同じ場所で、24トラックテープを用い、49回も行われたという。
ポールの息子ジェームスが、鳴き声で参加している（2分3秒のところで聞こえる）。
「この曲は女性賛美歌なんだ。"What does she get for all of this?"（彼女はこの代償として何を手に入れるんだろう？）という歌詞に対して、"Daytime Nightime Suffering"（昼も夜も悩み続ける）なんだ。女性の苦境ってとこだね。この曲が女性賛美にメリットがあろうとなかろうと、この曲は単なるポップソングなんだ。それだけ。」（ポール）

1974年に1973年度グラミー賞授賞式出席のためにロサンゼルスのビバリーヒルズ・ホテルに滞在していたときに書いた曲。ベーシックトラックはアルバム『Venus And Mars』のレコーディングのために訪れていたニューオリンズで録音されたが、トニー・ドーシーのヘルプの元、後ほどホーンセクションを録音している。
ベストアルバム『Wingspan』にも収録されていることから、ポールのお気に入りの１曲だということが分かる。ポールのパワフルなボーカルが聴けるナンバーだ。

1972年のウィングスのシングル「Hi Hi Hi」のＢ面に収録されたのがオリジナル。
ボブ・マーリーに代表されるレゲエに影響を受けた曲で、ポールがかなり気に入っている曲。
そのため、曲がヒットしたわけではないのに、ベスト盤に堂々と収録されたり、ウィングス時代、ソロ時代通じて、ライブやリハーサルでよく演奏されている。
曲のタイトルの意味については、2002年のアメリカツアー「Driving USA」の時に、演奏後のＭＣで手振りを加えて解説しており、その姿は公式DVD『Back In The U.S.』でも見ることができる。
「'C Moon'ってどんな意味なの？ってよく聞かれる。昔のロックンロール・ソングにサム・ザ・シャムの'Wooly Bully'っていう曲があるんだ。その曲の歌詞に'Let's not be L-seven'っていうのがあって、'L-seven'っていうのは四角形のことなんだ。Ｌと７とを合わせると四角形になるよね。四角四面な人のことだ。じゃあ、その反対は何になるかって考えたんだ。Ｌと７の代わりに、Ｃと月を使ったんだ。Ｃと月を合わせると丸になる。物わかりのいい人っていう意味なんだよ。」（ポール）
1972年に発表されたバージョンでは、ポールがピアノ、デニー・レインがベース、ドラムのデニー・シーウェルがトランペット、ギターのヘンリー・マッカロウがドラムを叩くという、いつもとは異なるバンド編成になっている。この時プロモーションビデオも撮影され、同じ楽器編成で演奏している。
公式に発表されたのは３バージョンあり、それぞれ(1)1972年オリジナル・シングル、(2)1989年9月26日ミラノ公演リハーサル、(3)2002年4月23日ワシントン公演 である。
ポールがかなり気に入っている曲のため、以下のようにいろいろなライブやリハーサルで演奏されている。その音源が収録されているブートも併記する。1973～1975年の演奏では、「Little Woman Love」とのメドレーで演奏している。

ポールが1971年頃にジャマイカで休暇を取っている時に書いたボサノバ風のアコースティック・バラード。ビートルズ時代にインド滞在中に書いた「Blackbird」の姉妹曲とも言える。「Bluebird」とは、北米産の青い羽の鳴鳥ルリツグミのこと。ポールのリバプール時代からの仲間、ハウイー・ケイシーのサックス・ソロが素晴らしい。
歌詞からは、人間の肉体的・精神的束縛からの解放や超越的な愛の力などが読み取れ、ポールの詩作における気質の変化が感じられる。
中期ウィングスのレパートリーとなっていた曲で、公式発表されているバージョンとしては、アルバム収録のオリジナル・バージョン以外に、(2)1975-1976年のワールド・ツアーでの演奏、(3)日本公演中止に関する日本のファン向けのメッセージと共にオーストラリアのホテルで録音されたアカペラ・バージョン が存在する。(3)のバージョンの演奏シーンは1975年11月に日本の番組「ポール・マッカートニーのすべて」で放送され、また、公式DVD『Wingspan』で見ることができる。

アルバム『Band On The Run』自体は、1975年グラミー賞最優秀コンテンポラリー／ポップ・ボーカル賞、最優秀エンジニアリング賞を獲得、アメリカでは発売12日後にゴールド・ディスクを獲得、ローリング・ストーン誌での1973年最優秀アルバム、ビルボード誌では4回トップの座に輝き、73週間も200位以内にとどまっていた。イギリスでは1974年の年間ベスト・セラー・アルバムとなり、ミュージック・ウィーク誌で7週1位を獲得したという大ヒットを記録した。
よってこの曲は、レコード会社による独自のオムニバス・アルバムにも収録されていることが多い。判明しているだけでも、『Radio X 70's』, 『ミュージック・オブ・ザ・ミレニアム』, 『グラミー・ボックス』, 『ベスト・ヒット・ＵＳＡ ７０’ｓ タイムマシーン・スペシャル』に収録されている。
ナイジェリアのラゴスでレコーディングされ、当時ウィングスのメンバーがポール、リンダ、デニーレインの3人となっていたので、ドラム、キーボード、ギター等ほとんどの楽器をポールが弾いている。
歌詞の中の「If I ever get out of here」は、1969年のビートルズ時代に、アップル社での会議でジョージ・ハリスンが発した言葉。
「この曲では、1つ、とてもうれしいことがあった。キース・ムーンがこの曲をラジオで聞いて、ドラムを誰がたたいているのか尋ねていたらしい。わからないはずだった。あの時、僕たちにはドラマーがいなかったから僕がドラムをたたいていたんだ。僕は本当にドラムが好きだ。」（ポール）
ポールの代表曲だけあって、1976年以降の全てのツアーでポールはこの曲を演奏している。
意外なことに、アルバム発売25周年として発売された記念盤『Band On The Run 25th Anniversary Edition』に収録されているアウトテイクと1974年のリハーサル（通称『One Hand Clapping』）以外、アウトテイクは発見されていない。

ポール・マッカートニーにとって、ビートルズ解散後のソロキャリアでのファースト・シングルとなった曲。B面は「Oh Woman, Oh Why?」。アメリカ・ビルボードで５位、イギリスで２位まで上昇し、ソロ時代初めてのヒットとなった曲で、ポールの代表曲の１つ。３種類のベスト・アルバムそれぞれに収録されている。
曲自体はビートルズ時代に作ったものであり、1969年のビートルズの「ゲット・バック・セッション」でも、ポールがピアノの弾き語りで演奏した曲であり、1969年1月9日と25日のセッションで聴くことができる。
レコーディングはアルバム『RAM』の制作時に行われたため、演奏に参加したミュージシャンはアルバム『RAM』と同じである。この時のレコーディングに参加したドラマー、デニー・シーウェルが後のウィングスの初代ドラマーとなる。
最初に発売されたシングルでは、作曲者としてリンダ・マッカートニーもクレジットされていたが、リンダが作曲した事実がないとして、当時の版権会社ノーザン・ソングスの社長、サー・ルー・グレードが、リンダの作曲者クレジットからの削除を求めて訴訟を起こした。結局、ポールはベスト・アルバムでのクレジットを単体とする。
「リンダが作曲者として認識されるかどうかは、重要じゃないって思ってた。僕が誰と一緒に作業しようとも、そのコラボレーションがどんな形であろうと、僕が作曲するのを手伝ってくれた人は、その権利の一部を所有してもいいと思う。」（ポール）
リンダは、この訴訟に触発され、自ら「Seaside Woman」を書いたと言われている。
ポールの代表曲の１つであるにも関わらず、この曲がライブで演奏されたのは、1993年のツアーのみである。
